Calamity Jane

Story
The world came to know me as Houdini – The Runaway Goat, a diminutive, female kid goat. I caused mayhem to city commuters as I poorly managed traffic, darting around cars, over nature strips and across parklands. But I didn’t do this to make people mad, I was frightened and scared and people were chasing after me and yelling. Some said they even wanted to eat me! Wouldn’t you have been scared too? I even did a stint of road patrol on the busy Tullamarine Freeway and surrounding inner city roads. For several weeks I had been spotted on the loose and numerous reports of my sightings filled the airwaves. But such notoriety gave me no comfort and as time wore on my stamina began to wear down. Exhausted from exploring the new frontiers I was finally wrestled to the ground by a TV cameraman who had come along hoping to film my capture, not carry it out.
My escapades made me famous around the world. The well known American online newspaper, the Huffington Post ran with a story – “Houdini,’ Runaway Goat In Australia, Prompts Wild Chase With Officials”. Leading United Kingdom media outlet, Reuters, reported “Police go on wild goose chase to trackdown runaway goat”, with the major Australian dailies also carrying stories about me, and I was even on TV. People around the world cheered when I was saved having been spared the fate of most goats. Now you may think such fame would go to my head, but no, I am more than happy to have found new digs here at Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary where the only shooting that goes on is with a camera and the only yelling I hear is “Wheetbix”, which by the way I have found tastes kind of yummy! And so I have gladly surrendered my life on the run for goat jungle gyms, yummy treats and welcome visitors.
