Wee-Man
Rescue Date:
7th December 2006
Story
Hi there buddy my name is Wee-man and I came to this wonderful place called Edgar’s Mission on the 7th of December 2006. I was rescued from a market were I had been bought by a small child who decided throwing stones at me seemed like a good idea. Many people stopped and stared in horror at this but no one did anything except a brave lady who stepped forward. She told the child to stop but he wouldn’t so she picked me up and said that she would take me to a place where no one would ever hurt me again. All the people watching cheered her.
I quickly made friends with another rescued chick, his name is Willow. We spent our early days in the bunny enclosure but the bunnies quickly decided that we were very messy house guests as we would scratch about their house leaving a trail of mess and poops in our wake. As we grew bigger new housing was needed for us. Both Willow and I turned out to be magnificent proud roosters. We make sure our human friends are up and about early each day to get on with their chores; we have made this our personal duty.
Did you know that us roosters can detect the light from the rising sun way before you human can? That is why we crow so early in the morning. Our crowing is a means of communication and we have an entire ‘vocabulary’ to communicate different things, a predator above, a ground predator, a yummy treat, this is my territory and much more!
My role now is to guard my hens for I will never let anyone hurt them. I don’t like people who cause harm to animals and I trust you would not tolerate this either.
