While politicians may have been out on the hustings last Friday, grade 7 students at Carrum Downs Secondary College received an extra special visitor seeking an extra special vote. Vote 1- Kindness was the simple request of Polly Pig and her human companions from Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary in Kilmore.
“Every day of our lives we are voting,” said sanctuary Founder and Director, Pam Ahern. “From breakfast time to bedtime, every choice we make will determine the type world we live in and there can be no greater vote than that of kindness.”
A thought-provoking journey explored how our lifestyle choices impact on humans, animals and the planet; encouraging students to develop their own sets of values based upon what is important to them. And as a sterling reminder of the intelligent and emotional world of animals, Polly Pig left no one in doubt that these personable animals really are so much more than the before of a ham sandwich.
