Finding your Why

It has been said the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why and on this very day back in 2013, a determined and courageous hen named Little Miss Sunshine was lifted from the crowded and barren battery cage that had contained her for the first two years of her life.

On this day five years ago, Little Miss Sunshine stretched her wings for the very first time, she felt the sun’s warm rays beam down upon her skin and she learned how it felt to walk upon cool, soft earth.

Those first steps Little Miss Sunshine took outside of the battery cage were the first of many she would take during her years of freedom: steps toward her favourite human when she heard her name called, steps to bring her racing into the kitchen when she heard the toaster taken out of the cupboard and sneaky steps to the couch at sundown to cuddle up to her favourite friend and protector, Wallace the gentle giant dog.

June 8th, 2013, the day upon which Little Miss Sunshine found her freedom was the first step toward her becoming one of the greatest animal ambassadors we have ever known, to showing the world what the term Bird Brain truly means and to changing hearts and minds all over the globe.

June 8th, 2013 was the day Little Miss Sunshine found her Why. And she wasn’t the only one. I truly believe her time on this earth brought us a step closer to a kinder world for us all.

Thank you for everything Sunshiney.

  1. For a long time now I have been wanting to say how truly amazing you all are!

Through the wonderful souls of bugs, plants, animals, birds, trees, the Earth itself, nature, bringing hope and rescuing animals in my own little way as I can daily, I have also found my reason “why”.

How truly lucky we humans are to live on this Earth among such great beings of all kinds. And how important it is to value them and the beautiful people who are taking care of them and bringing more awareness to the world.

Your posts and work at Edgar’s Mission are always such an inspiration for me, and of course the beautiful animals and birds you rescue, each one unique in their own way – you all are one of the big reasons why it is easier for me to go on, when at times it gets hard and just for a second I feel like there is no hope. Which is never true! :) There is always hope and you guys show it in a special way everyday. I guess the most teary I got, in a positive way of course :), was when I looked at your anniversary video: the video itself, the message, the people, the thank-you’s, the animals and birds, the song playing on the background, it all just made such a beautiful heartwarming message.

There is so much greatness, beauty, strength, kindness, friendship and love in all that you do! I am so thankful for people like you!

    Thank you!

    Much love,
