It’s Be Kind to Animals Week and this year, Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary is celebrating with the theme, ‘Everyday Kindness.’
Marking the 8th year since its inception, Be Kind to Animals Week was established in Australia by Edgar’s Mission, a not for profit sanctuary for farmed animals, as an opportunity for people from all walks of life to bring a little more kindness into the world.
“Kindness makes us feel good and this is something I see every day here at the sanctuary in the way a gentle touch or a soothing word can change a life,” Edgar’s Mission Founder and Director, Pam Ahern tells us. “This week gives us the opportunity to take time out of our busy lives and show the world we care.”
This year, Edgar’s Mission is asking people to celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week from October 1st to 7th by carrying out acts of ‘Everyday Kindness’.
Edgar’s Mission is home to over 400 rescued animal residents, all with their own individual stories, yet all united by the act of kindness. Ahern states, “They are all here because somebody cared. Because somebody took the time to be kind.”
Of course, you don’t need to physically rescue animals to be kind to them this week, in fact there are so many other ways to make a difference. Crafting enrichment toys for a local animal shelter, cleaning up a stretch of beach or parkland or even offering to walk your neighbour’s dog are all ideas shared by Edgar’s Mission.
“Or it could be as simple as smiling at a stranger,” Ahern reminds us. “Don’t forget, we are part of the animal kingdom too.”
