It December 1989: Pope John Paul II and Mikhail Gorbachev pledge greater religious freedom for citizens of the Soviet Union, Mongolia moves to become a democracy and the first episode of the animated sitcom, The Simpsons, makes its debut on television.
With the unforgetable Bart Simpson at the helm, the animated sitcom soon became iconic and much-loved. Many touted it the greatest sitcom ever made. No doubt, the show’s co-creator, the late Sam Simon was responsible for much of its success.
Fast forward to February 2019 and another Bart Simpson blesses this world with his inimitable charm. But don’t be deceived by his diminutive size, for this pint-sized porcine’s personality is indeed larger than life. Although he will never be the central character in a hit TV show, our Bart does find a central place in the hearts of all he meets, regularly whipping up a storm of laughter as he “popcorns” around with a zest for life like no other. We thank our lucky stars that we now have little Bart Simpson in our world, as he inspires us to live life to the full, to smile often and to be kind.
And each day, those touched by the warm heart and kind legacy of Sam Simon* know that although the world is not always a fair and just place, each and every one of us can find the key to a better world simply by being kind.
*When Sam Simon knew his time was approaching, he set about distributing his vast wealth in ways that mattered most: to help the homeless with vegan meals, to assist war veterans and, of course made a difference to animals in need.
