mission statement

A vision for a humane and just world

Nestled into the rolling fields surrounding the picturesque Macedon Ranges, Victoria, Australia, is a not for profit haven for rescued farmed animals. Established in 2003, Edgar’s Mission seeks to create a humane and just world, while rescuing and providing sanctuary to animals in need. With a simple mission of kindness Edgar’s Mission works to expand the public’s circle of compassion to include all animals through education, advocacy, community enrichment, and farm tours. What started with the rescue of the eponymous Edgar Alan Pig has grown into an organisation with global recognition as we ask this very simple question “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?”

Statement of Purposes:

  1. To provide shelter and direct care for homeless, abused, injured or abandoned animals.
  2. To find permanent homes for mistreated and abandoned animals and to promote adoption through education and example.
  3. To promote compassion, understanding and respect for all animals. To promote responsible and humane treatment towards animals in our community through the provision of advice, education and information.

We will do this by acting to the highest ethical standards we know through non-violent means emulating Gandhi’s words “We must be the change we wish to see”.

For a better world for us all.
