what we do

Our mission is kindness.

Our purpose is to:

  • provide shelter and direct care for homeless, abused, injured or abandoned animals
  • find permanent homes for mistreated and abandoned animals and promote adoption through education and example
  • promote compassion, understanding and respect for all animals and promote responsible and humane treatment towards animals in our community through the provision of advice, education and information.

Providing shelter and direct care for homeless, abused injured and abandoned animals

Caring for our animal residents is a big part of life at Edgar’s Mission. We provide optimal care for about 450 resident farmed animals.

Animals often come to us needing urgent treatment because of injury or neglect. We provide lifelong care for many animals who require ongoing day-to-day care.

We rely on volunteers, donors and supporters to help us provide care for our resident animals. Please see how you can help.

We provide more information about how we rescue animals (and the limits of our capacities) in the FAQs section.

Finding permanent homes for mistreated and abandoned animals

Our policy is ‘Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome whenever possible’. We frequently adopt out animals who have been rescued by Edgar’s Mission: animals needing loving, lifelong homes. We are immensely grateful to everyone who has been able to adopt animals rescued by Edgar’s Mission.

Interested in adopting?

Are you able to provide a lifelong, loving and knowledgeable home for a rescued farmed animal?  If you think you are able to provide one, please complete our prospective adopters form. We will keep your details confidential and notify you when a suitable animal is seeking a home.

Promoting compassion, understanding and respect for all animals and promoting responsible and humane treatment

Through education, outreach, advocacy, community enrichment and farm tours, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.

The Edgar’s Mission team (including animal ambassadors) can come to a school near you and provide a fun, informative and thought-provoking presentation.

We also conduct on-site educational programs for other groups.

We are always mindful never to tell people what to do or not do, rather we encourage people to think and develop their own values based on facts and personal priorities.

We do not include graphic imagines in our presentations.

Our greatest tool for creating a humane and just world rests with an informed public.  We regularly conduct outreach work throughout the community, attending markets, fairs, expos and community events.

We seek to inform people on how their lifestyle and dietary choices impact on animals and the world around them. We believe that through meeting our animal ambassadors and by learning about the plight of farmed animals, people will be empowered to make more informed and compassionate choices.

Edgar’s Mission regularly participates at conferences and other events, advocating on behalf of farmed animals. We make submissions to government investigations and work in a number of other ways to speak up for farmed animals.

Community enrichment

Edgar’s Mission is regularly represented at markets and stalls around Victoria. For information about forthcoming activities, where you can meet Pam and some of the residents of Edgar’s Mission, please visit our Events Page .

Farm tours and open days

We offer regular guided farm tours during spring, summer and autumn. These tours are of groups of up to 20 people, who are taken on a heart-warming and informative tour around our farm, led by a knowledgeable member of our team. Bookings are essential.

We have two major open days throughout the year: check our Events Page to see what is up and coming!
