The Gift of Life…

In early February, we at Edgar’s Mission were celebrating the safety of our sanctuary and all of its animal inhabitants after bushfires came far too close for comfort and caused devastation throughout our district. But just one week after we had welcomed our evacuated residents back to the sanctuary, we were then celebrating for a completely different reason as resident alpaca, Velma Dinkley gave birth to the most perfect bundle of joy we had seen in a long time. Promptly christened Scrappy Doo, the hour old cria was welcomed into the world not only by us but by pals Shaggy Rogers, Daphne Blake and Scooby Doo. While we have a strict no breeding policy here at the sanctuary due to the already overwhelming number of farm animals requiring rescue, every now and then an expectant mother is welcomed through our farm gates to then give birth in a place where she and her baby will know nothing but love and kindness for the remainder of their days.

And just one week after the arrival of little Scrappy Doo, we were blessed with yet another miracle baby, born to Daphne Blake, whom we promptly christened, you guessed it, Scrappy Don’t!

With mothers and babies all doing well, if this last month has taught us anything, it is that the gift of life is the most precious gift of all.
